CarLive Chain team announced the R&D work of on-board central car operating system based on block chain technology in Silicon Valley in the hope to replace the traditional androidsystem. Dr. Shipeng Li, former deputy dean and chief researcher of Microsoft Asian Research Institute, will provide technical guidance for the project.
With the fast development of the Internet of Vehicles, our cars are more exposed to external Internet and devices than ever before. While these external Internet connections and devices can provide basic IOV services for car users, they also pose a great threat to our driving safety. On one hand, cars are more easily to be hacked by others through the centralized communication protocols between car’s main control system and the external Wi-Fi or entertainment devices. On the other hand, many power-hungry devices, which are not tested and authorized by OEMs, could secretively change the functions of car’s USB ports under the name of IOV mining, thus bringing about lethal safety issues. So far, no OEM is willing to claim responsibility for the safety of cars whose USB ports’ functions have been altered.
To create true scenarios for IOV block chain’s adoption, CarLive Chain team has reacheda consensus with finished carmakers, OEMs as well as organizations and associations in automotive industry from UK, Germany, Japan and China on the application of block chain technology. CarLive Chain will officially kick off the development of DAsafe System, a central car operating system based on block chain technology. The system will make full use of IPv6 and achieve P2P transmission through the underlying block chain. Each external device will obtain only one IPv6 address and users can use private keys to their wallets to confirm their identity, thus achieving encrypted transmission. The system will also create a genuine decentralized information network by binding public key addresses to IPv6 addresses. IOV digital currency, digital identity and data ownership will be realized though CarLive Chain public chain.
According to reports, some finished car manufactures such as BYD will be the first ones to adoptDAsafecar central operating system.
